Making Time to Write Mondays

Book of Stars: Positivity in 2014

Last week I posted a very self-celebrating post of all of the writing things I’ve accomplished this year. One of my goals this year is to not be scattered to the wind and be very focused.

Last week was also a week of rejections for me. I got several, all within a few days. However, every single one of them had an encouraging note and something specific they liked about my writing.

After writing the 31 for fun post, thanks to Alayne Kay Christian’s encouragement, I realized I need to do this more often. No more waiting until the end of the year to feel like I actually accomplished something.

I got out one of those 50 cent journals, decorated it with stars. It will be my Book of Stars for 2014.

Book of Stars

What is going in the Book of Stars?

I’m going to write down the good that happens, the big projects I accomplish, and the words of encouragement from editors and agents AS THEY HAPPEN. I’m not waiting until December 2014 to take a look and say, “Yes, you really are making progress.”

I’m going to set this right near my computer and also near my monthly focus page that’s hanging on the wall behind my computer, and when I get discouraged or feel like I’m not making any progress at all, then I’m going to take a peek in the Book of Stars.

Materials I used (I didn’t have to go out and buy anything):

* Marbled composition book (50 cents during back to school sales. I buy a bunch at once)

* Scrapbook paper (I used purple because it felt royal)

* Glue

* Stickers with stars
